one thing I learned from the wonderful design and animation rock stars I've been lucky enough to work with is that we can use shape to help pose our characters. In cut out animation our rigs are all shapes, so by drawing this way you can also improve your cut out animation, as well as your traditional drawing skills. Weather you're a beginner artist, new to drawing this can help with drawing pr...

2DFX animation : Dissipation and dust
This is very confusing because you just jump-cut at 9:00, how do you acquire the ripple/roll tools? They yellow/red highlights don't show up for me and they haven't shown up for you up until this point.
this helped me get my first job!
but this process is on whole scene length. Can I have particles for example only from 1 - 30 frames?
The second "apply-peg transformation" is so simple, yet mind blowing. I used to manually offset the quadmap with a peg. Now, its just about making the "Apply Peg Transformation" Peg, the Master Peg of the group. Thanks.
all of that when traditional frame by frame looks waaaaay better! :S anyway a I have to learn this...
it feels like math
As a blender user, my knowledge of nodes in blender didn't transfer here at 😅all
I'm having so much trouble understanding the fade node. I've watched this at least 10 times, and gone and looked at the toonboom manual as well as stuck the fade node under just about every cord in my scene. can someone please point me to a good tute or explain how to use it please many thanks!!!
This was very helpful. Thank you so much. I was wondering if you could make a video about playing with facial expressions of a certain character but keeping the character identifiable. I struggle with that. When I change my character's expressions it just looks like a different character.
Heeey!! thanks so much!! That was really helpful specially on the buterfly part. I had to deal with a scene full of them and the easiest way was to use particles. Your tutorial came in handy!!!
I relate to using sound effects! It makes it more like music- rhythm, tempo, etc.
I’m using Moho but I love how you show your animation techniques. Most of the videos for Moho are just showcasing final animation. I really appreciate these types of videos. We need more artist to share the process of keyframe animations! 💛💛💛💛
I wonder if you may have a tip for me - I still get very confused how to make something that more freehand truly "cycle" - I find no matter what I do I end up with a section at the beginning or end of the animation that has nothing going on and I end up endlessly drawing bubbles to try and make it link - I think theres something I'm not understanding.
My method is to space out the drawings like I do in the video, then start different parts of the cycle on a different frame. So instead of always starting a part on 1, I'll start the next one on 8, then 3, then 5. Once I feel it's starting to get where I want, I'll take a little break, stretch, drink some water, then sit back and watch it on loop, looking for parts I don't like, and I can fill those in, or pull things back. Over time you learn to trust the process, and your eyes get better at seeing this kind of thing while it's in progress. But in general, standing back a bit helps. It's really easy to get hypnotized by tiny details in fx.
@@StylusRumble thanks for the tips, appreciate you taking the time. Gunna give this another attempt today.
ive tried 7 to 8 times that animation at 8:37, im really not able to get those wave forms going upwards. i did the normal wave and made grass animation and its working totally fine but it isnt working with this one. Really need help regarding that, any little tip is appreciated.☺
If your bubbles or guides are going up, it might be that you're not cleaning up consistently around the same ones? It's hard to say without seeing what you end up with.
@@StylusRumble yes i am cleaning around the same one but once I noticed it I stopped because it is same on all frames but there is an animation though (kind of rough), but there is GOOD NEWS though since it was same on all frames I just made the first frame then I disabled the bubbles layer and drew it manually following the shape like triangle or something else
@@StylusRumble also it would have been much better if I were able to use your method it's much easier and flexible to work with
Hi. So i have an illustrated arm, how do i divide it into layers because they were not drawn separately like what you did to yours
Unfortunately, there's no trick to it you cut the drawing up and modify the pieces.
What if you set it up like this, but the resulting master controller grid doesn't respect or acknowledge the flipped poses?
if your master controller's busted, that sounds like a tech support issue. Maybe there's a setting or something that you turned off, that I'm not familiar with. I currently don't have a harmony license to dig through the program, but toonboom twitter is pretty great at responding to questions quickly. Or www.youtube.com/@ZeBirdBrain really knows her stuff.
Thank you so much for your videos ❤🎉

Thank you so much❤
Bruh that water splash took 3-4 hours?
THANKS A LOT!
i downloaded the rig but none of the drawings show up! and its been happening with EVERY 360 rig ive downloaded! ive tried all my usual fixes, and i CANNOT figure this out! has anyone else had this issue? PLZ ( back when this happened at school i just had to reupload the rig to the drive. but thats cloearly unapplicable here!)
was able to fix the issue by putting it in a new scene and connecting it to a passthrough composite
Amazing! I there any way to switch "happy " to "sad" mouth in the same map? Or Should I have two different layers ?
Many thanks! Really useful and inspiring explanation.
YOOOOOOOO! I HAD NO IDEA YOU COULD WIRE TO THE INDIVIDUAL DEFORMER POINTS AND MAKE MORE SWITCHES THANK YOU SO MUCH
Can it be used to generate randomness in the line art so it's not a repeated texture? Like, without having to animate it? 🤔
Yes Mercury did the animation but additional animation was provided by Atomic Cartoons, who helped animate 8 episodes from the first season!
so this is who they do that camera move
Can you assessment my carton animation
more videos please! Can you tell us about the new tools in Harmony 22? for expl. OGL controllers, particles and rigging with constraints, weighted deform etc..

Just want to say - your videos are STILL so helpful and wonderful. Please never rmeove them. I am still learning so much :) So grateful for everything you've posted. I am new to animation and completely hooked.
heyyy the script is no longer exist what to do?
The newest versions of harmony actually come with it built in! you can search for it in the scripts.
Honestly, best video out there explaining process. Thanks for the time and energy to post - this is so damn helpful.
so this how they sometimes do rigs with moving jaws for each mouth pose
Love to return to this video time to time when lighting nodes are needed, bc I forget how to use them pretty fast. Thank you for video!
Works, but only if the character is not heavy. Otherwise, I would suggest to export the character by parts into After Effects.
In that case, I will render out a PNG sequence and re-import it into harmony. Sometimes it has to be rendered out a little wider to avoid distortion on the sides, but it gets the job done in one software.
@@StylusRumble Exactly, this makes sense, especially if the scene is already set up with camera movements. In my case, however, the animated sequence lived on its own and went then into a 3D editor anyway. Therefore, AE is a simple in-between stop. You say that Harmony glitches and changes proportions with exporting and reimporting? Never noticed that.
@@Wonders_of_Reality It's not the program changing the proportions- But if the PNG sequence is exactly the same size as the frame, when distortion happens close to the frame it might show where the image gets cut off. By pulling out a field or two with the camera, it gives the PNG sequence a safe area to distort near the frame
@@StylusRumble Interesting! Good to know. In other words, one should be careful with the distortion effects close to the margins of the frame. Well, if nothing else helps, one can always render the scene in higher resolution and then tinker with the effects in other editors (or in Harmony for that matter).
Спасибо!) Это самая умная девушка в мире!) О сложном - очень понятно.
Sometimes i draw shapes on different layers by selecting each of them but whenever i go back on another layer and select the object from that particular layer it turns out that all those objects are made on only in one layer even if i have selected different layers for different object, Please help its been frustrating me out a lot!🙏
It's somewhat reassuring to see that even you can find the logic of the particle system confusing :D
i have a query related to whiteboard animation. is it possible to animate the text to appear as it's being written on the whiteboard in toon boom harmony
6 yrs ago and it still great
Love this videos! So helpful, you’re great!
Thanks!
Hard to motivate lately with all this AI stuff but I rly liked seeing your process!
I've thought a lot about AI, and it's effect on the industry. I do think it will become part of the pipeline in places, but I don't think it can replace real artists for a long time. Also, right now AI is flashy and new, so it's getting a lot of funding from investors. However, it's a lot more expensive than people realized. It takes a tonne of processing power. As funding dries up the price of using AI will fall to the consumer. Once studios need to pay for AI, they will reconsider. At the end of the day, I genuinely love drawing. I like practicing and learning. So, even if I had to go get a job working nights at the local pub to keep my lights on, I'm going to keep drawing.
Great vid! After you’re done with one point perspective, can you show us how to do 2 point, especially when it come to scaling and mesurments?
I can probably rotate this one after I get the first view done :D
2024 will be my year to draw bg 😂
