Using Shapes to Pose Characters : Draw like an animator

one thing I learned from the wonderful design and animation rock stars I've been lucky enough to work with is that we can use shape to help pose our characters. In cut out animation our rigs are all shapes, so by drawing this way you can also improve your cut out animation, as well as your traditional drawing skills. How do we push poses? Drawing for animators

    The second "apply-peg transformation" is so simple, yet mind blowing. I used to manually offset the quadmap with a peg. Now, its just about making the "Apply Peg Transformation" Peg, the Master Peg of the group. Thanks.

    I wonder if you may have a tip for me - I still get very confused how to make something that more freehand truly "cycle" - I find no matter what I do I end up with a section at the beginning or end of the animation that has nothing going on and I end up endlessly drawing bubbles to try and make it link - I think theres something I'm not understanding.

    • @StylusRumble
      @StylusRumble Місяць тому

      My method is to space out the drawings like I do in the video, then start different parts of the cycle on a different frame. So instead of always starting a part on 1, I'll start the next one on 8, then 3, then 5. Once I feel it's starting to get where I want, I'll take a little break, stretch, drink some water, then sit back and watch it on loop, looking for parts I don't like, and I can fill those in, or pull things back. Over time you learn to trust the process, and your eyes get better at seeing this kind of thing while it's in progress. But in general, standing back a bit helps. It's really easy to get hypnotized by tiny details in fx.

      If your bubbles or guides are going up, it might be that you're not cleaning up consistently around the same ones? It's hard to say without seeing what you end up with.

      @@StylusRumble yes i am cleaning around the same one but once I noticed it I stopped because it is same on all frames but there is an animation though (kind of rough), but there is GOOD NEWS though since it was same on all frames I just made the first frame then I disabled the bubbles layer and drew it manually following the shape like triangle or something else

    • @StylusRumble

      if your master controller's busted, that sounds like a tech support issue. Maybe there's a setting or something that you turned off, that I'm not familiar with. • @StylusRumble
      @StylusRumble 4 місяці тому

      In that case, I will render out a PNG sequence and re-import it into harmony. Sometimes it has to be rendered out a little wider to avoid distortion on the sides, but it gets the job done in one software.

    • @Wonders_of_Reality
      @Wonders_of_Reality 4 місяці тому

      @@StylusRumble Exactly, this makes sense, especially if the scene is already set up with camera movements. In my case, however, the animated sequence lived on its own and went then into a 3D editor anyway. Therefore, AE is a simple in-between stop. You say that Harmony glitches and changes proportions with exporting and reimporting? Never noticed that.

    • @StylusRumble
      @StylusRumble 4 місяці тому

      @@Wonders_of_Reality It's not the program changing the proportions- But if the PNG sequence is exactly the same size as the frame, when distortion happens close to the frame it might show where the image gets cut off. By pulling out a field or two with the camera, it gives the PNG sequence a safe area to distort near the frame

    • @Wonders_of_Reality
      @Wonders_of_Reality 4 місяці тому

      @@StylusRumble Interesting! Good to know. In other words, one should be careful with the distortion effects close to the margins of the frame. Well, if nothing else helps, one can always render the scene in higher resolution and then tinker with the effects in other editors (or in Harmony for that matter).

      I've thought a lot about AI, and it's effect on the industry. I do think it will become part of the pipeline in places, but I don't think it can replace real artists for a long time. Also, right now AI is flashy and new, so it's getting a lot of funding from investors. However, it's a lot more expensive than people realized. It takes a tonne of processing power. As funding dries up the price of using AI will fall to the consumer. Once studios need to pay for AI, they will reconsider. At the end of the day, I genuinely love drawing. I like practicing and learning. So, even if I had to go get a job working nights at the local pub to keep my lights on, I'm going to keep drawing.
